The Central University of Jharkhand came into being under the Central Universities Act, 2009 promulgated by the President of India on 1st of March 2009. The above Act envisages establishing and incorporating Universities for teaching and research in the various states. The Central University of Jharkhand started with a vision to specially focus on relevant present age educational drives with an emphasis on research in cutting-edge technologies. The CUJ has made discernible progress in terms of international networking following Memorandum of Understanding signed with seven universities across the world. Being in its formative years, the University is open to new ideas in course curricula and research proposals, collaboration, interaction and capacity building programmes. In less than four years of establishment, it has sprouted into a bright and eager institution, willing to taste and test the world. It offers 5- year integrated (UG/PG) programmes and Ph.D. programmes in almost all its Schools/ Centres of Studies.
Cancer Research is one of the thrust areas of research at Centre for Life Sciences in CUJ. The Centre is well equipped with modern sophisticated instruments like Thermo cycler, Real Time PCR, Gel-Doc, Microbial and CO2 Incubator, Horizontal- Vertical gel electrophoresis system, Phase contrast and Fluorescence Microscope, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Centrifuges, Fluorometer, Microplate Reader etc. Keeping the morbidity and mortality caused by cancer in recent times and in order to train manpower, Cancer Biology has been implemented as an Elective Paper at UG level and compulsory paper at PG level at 5 year Integrated M.Sc. Oral cancer being the major cancer types in Indian subcontinent and among local tribal community (because of chewing tobacco habits), research work has been initiated to find potential therapeutic target of this neoplasm.
